About

The first SISI dates back to March 2018 bringing together for the first time a group of 30+ researchers dedicated to the study of introduced salmonids and impacts of their presence in South America, with delegates from Chile and Argentina.

The second SISI was held in March 2019 in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and brought together 60+ delegates from Argentina, Chile and USA. This meeting made absolutely clear the multidisciplinary nature of research on introduced salmonids. This meeting also highlighted the importance of implementing socioecological approaches and integrating scientific and traditional knowledge from the territories.

The third SISI promises to gather scientists, users and resource administrators, both national and international, dedicated to the study, use and management of salmonids introduced in South America. Continuing with the enriching experience of previous versions, ¡Our team warmly welcomes you and invites you to the beautiful and vibrant city of Valdivia!

SISI is a non-profit initiative co-organized by researchers from INVASAL and sponsored by Universidad Austral de Chile and Universidad de Concepción. All participation costs are intended to cover the correct operation and functioning of the symposium.

Organizing institutions

Founded in 1954 in Valdivia, the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) seeks to promote the decentralization of knowledge, culture, arts and research.

UACh is a traditional private university, part of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCh) and accredited by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA-Chile).

We develop our activities on different campuses, headquarters and laboratories throughout Chile, including Isla Teja campus in Valdivia where #SISI2024 will be hosted.

UACh carries out high-quality research and has a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Founded in 1919 in Concepción, UdeC is one of the most traditional and the third oldest universities in Chile.

Considered complex due to its research extension in various areas of knowledge, UdeC houses nearly 28,000 undergraduate and graduate students and an infrastructure of 243 thousand square meters built.

Since 2017, UdeC has acted as the host institution of INVASAL, located on Ciudad Universitaria campus, considered one of Chile’s most important architectural works from the first half of the twentieth century.

Millennium Nucleus INVASAL is a research center of excellence of the Millennium program of the National Research and Development Agency (ANID), Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of Chile.

The INVASAL team includes a wide range of researchers from universities and NGOs throughout Chile, from the Atacama Desert in the north to the Sub-Antarctic region in the south.

We work in an interdisciplinary manner with specialists in the areas of ecology, evolution, sociology, population genetics and genomics, stock assessment, fisheries biology and aquaculture. We also focus on conservation of fish, invertebrates, mammals and aquatic birds.
