Registration and Inaugural Ceremony and Conference
Registration will begin on Sunday 01 December between 15:00-18:00 and will continue on Monday 02 December from 08:30 a.m., followed by the Inaugural Ceremony and Conference. The registration point for the symposium will be located at the entrance of the Pugin Building of the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Austral de Chile.
Scientific Program
The general Scientific Programme is attached indicating that it may be subject to minor changes. The detailed program will be available during the first week of November. Download here the online version.
Oral Presentations
Oral presentations will have a total duration of 15 minutes: 10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes for questions.
Posters
Posters are requested to be handed in during registration so that they can be made available for display.
Guidelines for the preparation of posters:
● Vertical format. ● 90 x 120 cm. ● Support material and layout are free. ●We suggest the use of legible font at 1.5 meters.
Special Issue of the Journal of Fish Biology
As announced, abstracts submitted to SISI2024 will be eligible for submission to a special issue of the Journal of Fish Biology, entitled ‘Non-native salmonids: ecology, evolution and socio-ecology’ edited by Chris Harrod, Beatriz Cid-Aguayo, Colin Bean, Daniel Gomez-Uchida, Eva Thorstad & Julien Cucherousset. This special issue will include original articles, reviews, notes and opinions from researchers on topics of global importance, such as distribution, ecology and evolution in new habitats; interactions with native taxa; impacts of aquaculture escapes and artificial propagation; and importance of these species to local communities and opportunities for their control and management.
Tentative submission deadline: 31 January 2025.
Closing Activity Thursday 05 December 2024
One of the main touristic attractions of the city of Valdivia is the Calle Calle River. In response to this, the Organizing Committee offers to those participating in SISI2024 the possibility of boat ride on board of a Catamaran and dinner. This activity will take place between 21:00 and 23:00 hours. Afterwards, the activity continues on board the Catamaran moored at the quay with a party on board.
The cost per person (in Chilean Peso) is as follows:
● Undergraduate and postgraduate students: $ 20,000.- ● Postdocs / Technicians / Research Assistants - $40,000.- ● Academics / Professionals: $ 40,000.-
These costs correspond to the dinner and boat ride. Costs associated with the activity on the catamaran after dinner and boat riding are not included.

Arrival in Valdivia
Valdivia’s Airport (ZAL) will be closed during SISI2024 due to maintenance work. The most convenient airport in terms of connectivity is Puerto Montt (PMC). The transfer time between Puerto Montt’s airport (PMC) and Valdivia is approximately 2.5 hours. |
